Azeem Abu Bakar is a corporate finance and media specialist working at the intersection of capital markets, public policy, intelligence and strategic communications. His work focuses on high-stakes situations where financial outcomes are shaped by regulatory dynamics, political risk, public perception and investor management.
Azeem holds a BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and brings a rare combination of financial discipline, intelligence capability and execution experience across corporate, government and market environments.
He is currently Managing Director of Free Malaysia Today (FMT), where he led a full organisational turnaround, and previously held corporate finance and strategic roles at UEM Group and UEM Sunrise. He also sits on the board of BERNAMA.
In 2012, he founded and led an intelligence-gathering and strategic analysis firm in London, serving government and institutional clients including prime ministerial offices, defence establishments and multinational organisations. The firm specialised in open-source intelligence, sentiment analysis and scenario modelling, supporting senior decision-makers on security, policy and geopolitical risk. He also delivered intelligence training to senior military officers.
Over the past decade, Azeem has applied this intelligence-led approach to corporate and market contexts, executing stakeholder mapping, policy advocacy, crisis response and market-facing strategies during sensitive negotiations, restructurings and national policy debates, where timing and interpretation materially affect outcomes.
